Volunteer Work

Spring 2024

A theme for my junior year has been to reach out to thecommunity beyond the Ithaca College campus. To this end, I joined the MasterComposter Program where they have ample opportunities for volunteer work. Theprogram has a rich diversity of people across age, gender, and interests and itis a great way for me to interact with local Ithacans! Volunteering with themusually entails working with many people and speaking with people who come toour table to discuss composting. This helps me to be able to talk to people andgrow stronger connections in Ithaca before I am in my last year of college.

Fall 2023

IC Food Rescue

I often spent my Fiday nights packaging food waste from the Campus Center dining hall. Since this project was only started last semester, we really honed the structure of the volunteer opportunity, getting a few regular volunteers alongside the EcoReps team! Scooping up food while actively thinking about the person to whom this will bring joy is a beautiful experience.

Spring 2023

IC food rescue

I am part of a team that takes food waste from the IC dining hall and donated it to local organizations like Friendship Donation Network and St. John’s Community Services. It has been a fun experience - we’ve had about 5 volunteers for a couple weeks and have all enjoyed scooping up food and packaging it into meal containers, knowing that someone is going to benefit from this!

Fall 2022

Apple Picking for Food Donation Network

Field Trip organized by Dept. of Environmental Science and Studied. We headed out to Grismore farms on a beautiful Saturday morning and picked apples which were then donated to Food Donation Network

August Move-in crew

Helped students living in East Tower move-in! It was a fun experience lifting up heavy bags and boxes while chatting with

Jumpstart leader

The jumpstart program is an annual program run for Freshman at Ithaca College. It helps students understand the place they will spend the next four years at. I was a participant of it as a freshman and volunteered to help with the ‘Ithaca is Gorges’ program within Jumpstart. It was a great experience to see how jumpstart impacted by sense of belonging and was going to do the same for the students participating this year!

Spring 2022

Light on the Hill

Volunteering at Light on the Hill was a great experience. Our role was to help with the cleaning of the facilities - it was great to help this amazing NGO and release some stress while deep cleaning too!

IC Food Pantry

I felt really happy to see people come into the food pantry and pick up things. In India, where I am from, I haven’t seen too many of these things and this was a refreshing idea. I have also become a food pantry frequenter now!

Fall 2021

Ithaca Reuse Centre

Volunteering here was a great experience. I have always been interested in understanding the growing American thrift culture and I enjoyed being an active part of it. I have also gone back there multiple times since and have encouraged friends to join me.

Though introverted, I’m always up for a nature themed chat! Reach out to me through any of the channels below:
